Canticus Vocal Ensemble presents “AMERICANA,” its final concert of the 2025-26 season. The concert is set for 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at Englewood Christian Church. It will be a celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence leading to the creation of the United States of America. “AMERICANA” features music and texts that recount the American Spirit of 1776.
And what better way to represent the writings of that time than those of the author of the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson. Canticus will perform Randall Thompson’s “Testament of Freedom,” a four-movement setting of the words of Jefferson from the time just prior to the American Revolution. The “Testament of Freedom” premiered in April of 1943 when the United States was embroiled in World War II. The words are as fitting today as they were in the late 1770s and the 1940s.
So, please mark your calendars for “AMERICANA” at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, at Englewood Christian Church, 511 North 44th Avenue, Yakima.
